Ryan Rongone maintains an active freelance career as a trombonist in the Houston area. For the 2022-2024 seasons, he was the Acting Second Trombonist with the Houston Symphony. Currently, Ryan is the Principal Trombonist of the Magnolia City Brass Band, with whom he has appeared as a soloist on multiple occasions . As a chamber musician, he's a member of the Houston Brass Quintet, Ravenswood Brass, and Brass Street Boys. He is also a regular substitute with the Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet, ROCO, and Theatre Under the Stars. As a pit musician, Ryan has performed for Broadway Across America's national tours of Funny Girl, In the Heights, The Great Gatsby, and Some Like it Hot. His career includes performances with Renee Fleming, Jeremy Jordan, Derek Klena, Tony DeSare, the Temptations, the Four Tops, Lionel Cole, Chris Botti, Sal Lozano, Jonas Kaufmann, and Johnny Mathis.
Education plays a vital role in the life of Ryan Rongone. He is on faculty at Texas Southern University and also works as a teacher/clinician at several schools in the Greater Houston area. Teaching has allowed Ryan to travel to Cuba on three occasions to coach and perform with the students of the Conservatorio de Musica Estaban Salas in Santiago de Cuba. A native of Bloomsburg, PA, Ryan received performance degrees from Penn State and Rice University. His primary teachers were Mark Lusk, Allen Barnhill, and Todd Hunter. Outside of music, Ryan enjoys spending his time swimming, cycling, and downhill skiing. He also enjoys casting Levicorpus at unsuspecting Hufflepuffs. |
